Major Responsibilities:

• Organizes and maintains greenhouse plants, flowerbeds, and horticultural displays.

• Participates in the planning, creation, planting, and upkeep of landscapes, turfgrass areas, indoor and outdoor plantings, and horticultural displays, as well as in all facets of plant health care, including the use of pesticides and IPM.

• Various growing media are prepared prior to planting, propagules are collected, cleaned, and stored, plants and transplants are planted and maintained, and the proper growing environment is determined.

• inspects plants, flowers, bushes, and trees, reporting any damage, disease, or insect infestation.

• sprays flowers, bushes, and other items after preparing chemicals for spraying.
• carries out park upkeep tasks including rubbish collection, ice and snow removal, and restroom cleaning.

• Load supplies, plants, etc., and deliver them as needed to different areas. use a variety of motor vehicles, automated equipment for lawn, garden, and turf maintenance, etc.

• answers the public's inquiries about horticulture.
• It can be necessary to carry out landscaping tasks like sodding and building retaining walls, among others.

Essential Qualifications: You must list your qualifications in relation to the following in your resume:

1. A horticulture degree or certificate, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

2. Significant practical gardening experience

3. Must have and be able to maintain a Class "G" Driver's License issued by the Province of Ontario

4. License Class and must meet the conditions and requirements for the City's equipment operating permits.

5. Having the necessary Ontario Landscape Exterminator's Licence or the capacity to obtain one.

You will also be required to demonstrate the following:

• A thorough understanding of plant materials and the capacity to cultivate and propagate a wide range of plants for park area beautification.

• Ability to organize, plant, and care for trees, shrubs, and perennials using the best horticulture practices and to produce a pleasing look.

• the ability to identify and treat illnesses, weeds, and insect pests in the most efficient way possible.

• Knowing how to utilize fertilizers most efficiently and understanding how much water plants need.

• Obtaining a structural greenhouse/interior plant exterminator license can be necessary.

• Must be conversant with the rules that apply to this job under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

• Must be physically capable of carrying out the necessary tasks and be able to work outside in any weather.

• the capacity to interact politely with the public.
• Must be available to work any required shifts, weekends, or overtime.
