ASUU and SSANU have identified thieves in the Ramce Scholarship Program
The National Union of University Teachers (ASSU) and the Senior Staff Union of Universities (SSANU) have said that President Bola Tinubu's Higher Education Act, which he signed this week, has a major flaw in the Student Grant Scheme.
But the rule says that the loan will only be given to students whose parents' annual income is less than 500,000 Naira, which is about $1,000.
Another strict rule is that it won't be given to any student who is qualified unless they have paid "tuition fees."
Because of this, their groups say that the Federal Government Universities have already stopped charging students "tuition fees."
So, they won't accept the idea of getting the money back now.
The National University Students' Union (ASSU) also liked the loan scheme, but they did not agree to higher school fees.
Program for High School Students to Get Money:
Tinubu made the rule that set up the bank so that students could get loans from it. This was a promise made by Buhari from 2014 until he left office.
The bill to start the Student Bank was signed by President Bola Tinubu. Students can borrow money from this bank for free.
Dele Alake, who works for Tinubu and is his chief of staff, told reporters at the Presidential Palace on Monday that Tinubu had signed the law.
If you don't remember, one of the things that Buhari ran on in 2015 was the "APC Resolutions," which said that at the start of his presidency, students would get loans with no interest.
"The Federal Government will pay the students the water fees that they will pay to the bank." On the first page of the paper, there is also a list of the Bills that Buhari ran for office on.
But in 2016, Femi Gbajabiamila, who was the former Speaker of the Federal Assembly, fought against this resolution that Tinubu had signed.
Gbajabiamila is now the President's Chief of Staff. He got the job on Wednesday.
This law "will make it easier for Nigerians to go to college or university after high school."
Tinubu said during the campaign that if he was elected president, he would sign the measure into law to improve education in Nigeria.
