Food can be put into six categories, and these categories tell us what ingredients our daily meals need to have in order to be healthy. It is very important to get the right kind and amount of minerals. Malnutrition, undernutrition, and overnutrition all depend on whether the amount and quality of nutrients eaten are enough or not enough.


What is Food

Food is something that everyone needs. It is one of the most basic bodily needs. The amount and variety of food a person eats must be enough for their needs. When the right amount and quality of food is eaten, the following will happen:

3. Emotional stability

4. Resistance against illnesses and diseases

5.Enthusiasm for the challenges of life

6. Lack of stamina

7. Poor Physical Appearances

Good diet can make a big difference in how a person looks and how healthy they are.


At certain times of the day, meals are eaten. Then, we eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner to keep from getting hungry at different times of the day. People still eat for fun in between these meals. There are certain foods that are usually eaten with each meal. Breakfast is often linked with things like bread, eggs, yams, cereal, fruit juice, bacon, and sausage. Pounded yam, Amala. Eba, Semovita, Egusi soup (melon soup), Okro soups, Rice, and Beans. Most of the time, people eat fried plantains for lunch or dinner.

 Carbohydrates: They give you energy for daily jobs and are the main source of fuel for your brain, which needs a lot of energy. Fiber is a type of carbohydrate that helps keep your gut system in good shape. Foods like amala, rice, bread, corn, yam, potato, beans, etc. are all good sources of carbohydrates.

Protein: It helps the body in many ways. It helps build and heal your body's tissues, lets metabolic reactions happen, and makes sure that your body's functions work together. Meat, beans, fish, soybeans, eggs, peanuts, cheese, and chicken are all examples.

Vitamins: They help your bones stay strong, your cuts heal, and your immune system work better. They also turn food into energy and fix damage to cells.

Vitamin A Eggs, milk, carrots, sweet potatoes, and cantaloupe

Vitamin C Oranges, strawberries, tomatoes, kiwi, broccoli, and red and green bell peppers

Vitamin E Avocados, nuts, seeds, whole-grain foods, spinach, and other dark leafy greens


Fats: They give energy to living things, keep organs warm, and move vitamins that dissolve in fat through the blood. Palm oil, peanut oil, butter, margarine, sardines, pork, egusi oil, and cod liver oil are all examples of these.
Minerals: It keeps bones, muscles, the heart, and the brain in good shape. Minerals are also used to make enzymes and hormones, which are very important. Cereals, bread, meat, fish, milk, cheese, nuts, fruit (especially dried fruit), and veggies are all good examples.
Water: It Regulates body temperature, and moistens tissues in the eyes, nose, and mouth. It also protects body organs and tissues and carries nutrients and oxygen to cells.
