What is Values In Civic Education, Types And Importance

There are different ways to define "values." Because of this, I will talk about values in terms of political education, the different kinds of values, and how important they are to society.

What is Values

I'll describe five (5) ideals in civic education.

Values are the ideas, things, or rules that people in society care about.

2. Values are the rules and ways of acting that most people in society agree are very important.

Values are rules, moral principles, ideas, and beliefs that people hold dear and appreciate, such as honesty, contentment, faithfulness, justice, tolerance, fair play, etc.

4. Values are the rules that govern how people in a society, country, or state think and treat each other.

5. Values are worth of things that aren't always easy to measure, like honesty, hard work, persistence, etc.

Types of Values

There are three (3) types of values:

Positive Values: This is all about having traits that are good for you and for society as a whole. Honesty, ethics, hard work, diligence, discipline, patience, respect, etc. are all examples of good values.

Negative Values: They are qualities that are not good for oneself and the society at large. A person with negative values will only end up destroying his/her life. Negative values are bad and worthless qualities that can only bring about one’s destruction. This could be in the form of prioritizing the unhealthy habit in order to gratify oneself.

Intrinsic Values: Someone or something that has a value that comes easily to them. It can also be thought of as the trait of anything that has its own value. As a sign of respect, younger people in some tribes in Nigeria are supposed to kneel or get on their hands and knees for older people. In the above example, respect is given to older people because of their age and status. In this case, his age and position are seen as intrinsic traits because they are part of who he is.

12. They help people get along with each other and be friends.
