About British Columbia's University

The University of British Columbia is known around the world for its excellent teaching, research, and impact on the world. Since 1915, UBC has helped people with the curiosity, drive, and vision to make the world a better place get the chances they deserve.

More than 68,000 students from Canada and more than 140 countries around the world come to the University of British Columbia to learn, grow, and be inspired. More than 370,000 people from 148 countries are part of UBC's global alumni network. Three Canadian prime ministers are among the 71 Rhodes Scholars and 8 Nobel Prize winners who went to UBC.

UBC is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion to strengthen its community, the quality, relevance, and impact of its research, and the opportunities for all potential participants in the research ecosystem. UBC is also the first university in North America to commit to putting into practice the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and to base our Indigenous strategic framework on human rights.

The main campuses of UBC are in Vancouver and Kelowna. Vancouver is a major cultural and economic center in the area, and Kelowna is a city in southern British Columbia near Okanagan Lake. Also in Vancouver, UBC Robson Square is a lively learning center in the middle of downtown, the UBC Learning Exchange is a community engagement program in the Downtown Eastside, and UBC's Centre for Digital Media at the Great Northern Way Campus is in Mount Pleasant. UBC also gives students in the Faculty of Medicine hands-on training at more than 80 training sites all over British Columbia.

The UBC campuses are in the traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh, as well as in the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan Nation and their people.
