How much money do you need to move from Nigeria to Canada?

People moving is no longer a big story. As a business, we've had employees leave to start over in another country. Instead of pretending that this doesn't happen, we've decided to make a guide to finances to help our users who are moving from Nigeria to Canada.

In this article, we'll tell you how much money you need to move to Canada from Nigeria as a permanent resident (PR). If you read all the way to the end, you'll also find out how to use your Cowrywise funds as proof of funds.

What you need to do to move to Canada from Nigeria

1. Sign up with the Canadian government for an Express Entry account

With this, you can move if you have at least 3 years of work experience and are a skilled worker. There are also other ways, like going to school. Please learn more about the different ways you can go.

2. Sign up for a World Education Services account (WES)

Send your school's transcript to WES. They will look at it and see if your level of education is equivalent to a BSc or Masters in Canada. Some schools can send your transcript by email, but others can't. In the second case, you will need to use a courier service or your country's mail service to send it.

1. Write IELTS general testing exam

2. Submit your credentials

Add your WES score, IELTS results, and other information about your career and yourself to your profile. Once you have done this, you will be added to a "pool" of thousands of candidates waiting for the Canadian government to send them an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

5. Make sure you have proof that you have $13,000 or more in Canadian dollars.
Using Cowrywise is a simple way to show proof of funds. You only need to do this step if you get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency. You need to start saving money early so that you won't have problems if you get an ITA.

These are the basic steps for someone who wants to move to Canada. There are things you need to remember about each of them, so make sure you do your research.

For example, there are two places in Nigeria where you can take the IELTS test. When you start your application, find out which one is best for you. Also, the process is different if you want to move from Nigeria to Canada as a student.

Now that you know how to move to Canada as a permanent resident from Nigeria, let's talk about how much it will cost. Without money, it will be nearly impossible to move. If moving will make you happy, then those who said that money can't buy happiness may have been wrong.

Cost of relocating to Canada from Nigeria

1. Opening an immigration account is free unless you want to use an agent.
2. Getting your school to send your transcript by the courier can cost anywhere from N15,000 to as much as you can think of, depending on how stressful it is to get transcripts from some Nigerian universities. So, besides money, you might also need a lot of luck here.
3. Have WES type up your transcript.
WES charges a different fee to transcribe the transcript that your school sends them. This costs $227 right now (CAD). Depending on the rate of exchange, this costs about N73,000 or more right now. But if you want WES to send you a hard copy of their evaluation, it may cost you more.
4. The cost to sign up for IELTS is N83,000.
5. The amount of proof of funds (POF) you need to show depends on how many people are moving to Canada with you. For a breakdown, see the table below... If you are moving alone, you should have at least N4,300,000 in proof of funds.

You don't have to "spend" your proof of funds to move to Canada. Instead, you just have to show that you have enough money to cover your living costs for at least 6 months when you get there.

Total amount spent (not including POF): N171,000+
The total amount needed, including the POF, is N4,471,000 or more.
