How to Immigrate to Canada From Nigeria

In recent years, more and more people from Nigeria are moving to Canada. In fact, Nigeria is one of the main countries from which people move to Canada. In 2021, more than 15,000 Nigerians moved to Canada.

Many Nigerians find that moving to Canada gives them a lot of chances that they don't have in their home country. Canada is a top choice for Nigerian immigrants because it has a stable government, a strong economy, and schools that are known around the world.

Here are the top five ways for people to move from Nigeria to Canada:

1. Express Entry

Express Entry is the fastest and most popular way for people who want to move to Canada to start a new life. People who want to move to Canada and live there permanently can use Express Entry to organize and process their applications.

Ideal candidates have a degree from a university or college, have worked in a skilled job, and speak English and/or French well enough to get by. Because of this, professionals from Nigeria usually do well in the Express Entry pool.

Candidates who are eligible for the following programs can also submit an Express Entry application:

Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)

Federal Skilled Trades (FST)

Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

2. Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

Provincial Nominee Programs, or PNPs, are the immigration programs that each of Canada's thirteen provinces and territories runs on its own. Because the provinces have different economies and populations, their immigration programs are all different and made to meet the needs of their economies and populations.
People often choose PNPs because they can be the fastest way to get permanent residency in Canada.
You will get 600 more Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points if you are nominated through a PNP that works with Express Entry. This means that in the next Express Entry draw, you are almost certain to get an invitation to apply (ITA) for permanent residence.

3. Family Sponsorship
Family reunification is the most important thing for immigration to Canada. Canada has a number of immigration programs that allow Canadians to bring their family members to Canada by sponsoring them.

In order to sponsor a family member as a permanent resident through the family class, the sponsor must meet the following requirements:

Be a Canadian citizen or someone who lives there permanently and is at least 18 years old.
If they are a permanent resident, they must live in Canada. Even if Canadian life outside of the country, they can still sponsor a family member. But when the sponsored family member becomes a permanent resident of Canada, he or she must live in Canada.
Have enough money to help the person you're sponsoring financially for the required amount of time.
Also, the sponsor must meet other requirements, such as not getting social assistance (unless they need it because of a disability), paying their bills on time, including paying for their sponsored family members, not having a criminal record, etc.

4. Canada's Start-Up Visa Program

Through the start-up visa program, you may be able to move to Canada if you are an entrepreneur with a new business idea.
Canada is looking for smart people who want to start businesses that will help the economy and give people jobs.
Qualified candidates can get a work permit to come to Canada, and once they have set up their business, they will be able to stay there permanently.

5. Other federal economic programs

If you have a job offer in a field that is in demand or in a rural or Atlantic part of Canada, you may be able to apply for permanent residence through another federal economic program. The Canadian government has a number of economic pilot programs to help fill labor or population gaps in certain regions or industries across the country.

How much does it cost for a person from Nigeria to move to Canada?

Immigrating to Canada from Nigeria usually costs a single person about $2,300 CAD and a couple about $4,500 CAD. This amount will also change based on the program you use to apply.

Keep in mind that this total does not include the settlement funds that most candidates must show to be eligible for Canadian immigration. This amount depends on the size of the family and starts at around $13,000 CAD for a single applicant.

Do I need the IELTS if I'm from Nigeria and want to move to Canada?

If you are from Nigeria and want to move to Canada, you will probably have to take one of Canada's official language tests. Almost all Canadian immigration programs ask applicants to show proof that they can speak French or English from an official organization.
You can show how well you know English by taking either the IELTS or CELPIP test. In Nigeria, you can take both the CELPIP and IELTS tests.
The Canadian government doesn't have a preferred test, so you can choose whichever one is easiest for you.
