NEWS The Nigerian government explains why it invited the ICPC to look into potential N-Power fraud.
On Wednesday, the Federal Government provided an explanation for the Independent Corrupt Practises and Other Related Offences Commission's (ICPC) invitation to investigate the alleged misappropriation of money in the N-Power Programme.
In order to combat youth unemployment in the nation, President Muhammadu Buhari established the N-Power initiative in 2016.
The scheme had helped at least 500,000 young people since it began more than six years ago.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development released a statement in Abuja. According to Dr Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, the ministry had found several errors in the program's payment procedures.
He said that the fraud was being carried out by Payment Service Provider (PSP) workers.
The statement said: The matter was immediately brought to ICPC for a thorough investigation when it came to our attention that some employees of the Payment Service Provider who were involved in the payment operations of beneficiaries may have engaged in some sharp practices.
As a result, as part of the continuing investigations, certain individuals have, as far as we know, been invited for questioning.
