 Study-In-South-Africa: 2024 University of Cape Town Mastercard Scholarship for Foreign Students


The goal of the University of Cape Town Mastercard Scholarship Programme is to turn talented young people from recipients to givers by giving them the principles, knowledge, skills, and leadership they need to help Africa make economic and social progress.


The Programme is for undergraduate and postgraduate students from Africa who are prepared academically and come from low-income backgrounds but have leadership potential.


The programme will give scholarships to young Africans who are smart and want to go to UCT for their undergraduate and graduate studies.

Scholarships for Postgraduates | Masters Scholarships 

Countries that are eligible are all in Africa. 

Full scholarship, housing, a monthly stipend, and an offer of a visa. Deadline: July 31, 2023.

Information about the scholarship: Students get their IMES when they start their first year at UBC. The scholarships can be renewed for up to three more years of study.


The amount and number of these scholarships given each year depend on how much money is available.


Requirements for the scholarship: To be qualified for this scholarship, applicants must;


Be a member of a country in Africa

Be willing to study at UCT's Engineering and the Built Environment, Commerce, Health Sciences, Humanities, Law, or Sciences schools.

Be from a low-income family, show financial need, and have the ability to be a leader.

Those who want to get a second Masters's degree at the same level are not allowed to apply for this scholarship.

Applicants who have already signed up for a Masters's degree at a college or university are not allowed to apply for this scholarship.


How long a scholarship lasts and what you get out of it

The programme will give scholarships to young Africans who are smart and want to go to UCT for their undergraduate and graduate studies.


Students who join the Programme will get help with their schoolwork, leadership growth, and life skills. There will be tutoring, language training, writing circles, and advice counselling to help with schoolwork.


How to Put It To Use

Before applying to The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Programme, candidates must first apply to study and work at the University of Cape Town.  Mastercard Foundation scholarships can only be applied for by people who have already applied to UCT for academic study and work. Different postgraduate study programmes have different admission standards. Talk to the teachers directly to find out what you need to do to take the course or get the degree you want. Please look at the 2024 Directions for Postgraduate Applicants and faculties for important dates and information about classes at UCT, how to apply to the University, and support structures for postgraduate students at the University.

Step 2: Gather all the supporting papers you need to strengthen your application.

Step 3: Fill out an online application for a place to study and work.

Part 2


Step 1: Go to the University of Cape Town's Mastercard Foundation Scholars Programme webpage.

Step 2: Make a page on the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Programme website.

Step 3: Take the quiz to see if you are eligible.

Step 4: Fill out the application form for the Mastercard Foundation Masters Scholarship.

Step 5: Upload certified copies of your identity document, passport, or refugee papers, proof of address, current and previous post-secondary transcripts, proof of completed/current degree, curriculum vitae, essay, statement and signatures, and affidavit declaration.

Step 6: Find two people to recommend you.
