The Margaret McNamara Educational Grants (MMEG) programme gives money to women from poor countries so they can go to school and make their lives better.


The MMEG is one of the few organisations that help women financially. In the past, grants of up to US$15,000 have been given out through the US/Canada programme, while grants of up to US$7,000 have been given out through Africa, Latin America, and Trinity programmes.

Information about the scholarship: Our organisation is influenced by Margaret McNamara and her ideas about education and equal rights for men and women. Margaret used her power as the wife of Robert McNamara, the fifth President of the World Bank, to push for these important parts of development programmes to be recognised and included.


In honour of her important work, she was given the Medal of Honour, which is the greatest civilian honour in the United States, before she died.


Needs for a scholarship:

Those who want to apply for this scholarship must:


Be a citizen of a country on the list of MMEG-eligible countries

Be a woman and already a full-time or part-time student (taking at least two classes per semester or term) at one of the universities on this list.

Be registered in school for at least one semester (half a year) after the MMEG grant is given in December (the term between January and July 2023);

Plan to finish school no later than three years after getting the MMEG grant;

If you are applying from a place other than South Africa, you must have a study permit for South Africa.
