Documents and Requirements


*Proof of citizenship in Canada

*A legitimate identity-verification document

A pair of identical passport photos

*A document proving parenthood or guardianship.

*A current, legitimate passport or other travel document issued in your name.

*Your application form, duly attested by a guarantor and signed within the last 12 months.

*Additional paperwork, such as the results of a language exam, might be necessary. Any paperwork that isn't in English or French must be submitted with an accurate translation.

Who is a guarantor?

A child's guarantor must be older than 18 and have known you have a child for at least two years. On a portion of the application form designated for them, the guarantor must sign. On the back of one of your passport images, write "I certify this to be a true likeness of (application name)" and sign it. The guarantor must also initial any photocopies of any identification documents.

How do you submit your documents?

Make sure you have the original copies of the document before submitting it. However, you may only submit photocopies if your guarantor has properly signed them. The actual documents you send, nevertheless, will be returned to you once your application has been examined. You have two options for submitting your application and supporting materials: in person or via mail.

The basic fee for passports are:
5-year adult passport – $120
10-year adult passport – $160
Child passport (0-15 years old) – $57.
